Public bug reported:
I was just taking the usual Ubuntu software update, there were 4
updates. I always install all updates. Left the computer updating it
didn't appear to have finished. I left again to try and finish. After a
long time I had to go out. I came to close the application down and
noticed the red error Icon top righ,t briefly read the message but
hadn't time to deal with it.
Other than the normal applications that are setup when you install
Ubuntu. I have only added two applications Rosegarden which I haven't
set up yet and Synaptic Package Manager again not used apart from
looking for Fluidsynth which isn't in the Ubuntu Software Center. I have
not downloaded any software from Synaptic Package Manager or any other
source.
Switched on this morning the error message is still there. Two packages
must have updated but not OS Updates and Software Updates 16.04.08
Can't highlight the error message to copy it. the error message reads:
Error: Broken Count>0'. This usually means that your unmet package have
dependences. It also says An error occurred run package manager. I have
just run this and got the Authenticate Dialog box and signed in. Another
Dialog appears saying you have two broken packages.
linux-image-extra-4.10.0-30-generic

and
linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04
Generic Linux kernel image
I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Looked in the Software Centre can't find version.
I am a novice user. I found terminal tried typing in ernie@ernie-
ESPRIMO-E400:~$ apt-cache policy pkgname
N: Unable to locate package pkgname so still haven't managed to find the
version will keep looking fo it.
I simply expected the software to update I usually do this weekly.
Sorry I am new to Ubuntu and have a lot to learn.
Hope you can help.
Thank you
Ernie Steeples
