** Description changed: I have an ASUS with i7-4710HQ running 16.04, and thermald doesn't seem - to increase fan speed at all (it constantly reads 1400 even under load). + to increase fan speed as much as it can (it reads 2600-4000 under load). Manually changing the fan speed using the PWM control changes the speed - and it becomes louder. + and it becomes louder than what it is at 4000. I have been seeing a lot of MCEs in dmesg: CPU5: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled. I can provide more information if needed.
