Public bug reported:

My system hangs when I install the nvidia-glx drivers, enable them
(nvidia-glx-config enable) and reboot the system. The hang occurs after
the login screen, when the desktop has almost loaded. The system manages
to load the background image and after that it crashes. The mouse cursor
moves, but nothing else happens.

I had to replace "nvidia" with "nv" in xorg.conf using a CTRL-ALT-F1
console to fix this situation. I tried reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch
but the exact same problem happened.

I'm using the amd64 version of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy. My relevant hardware
specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi
NVIDIA 7600 GS
2 GB of RAM
