For me, this is still broken in Xubuntu 17.10. I assumed it was long
fixed in recent versions, so I never bothered to report it (or look for
reports).

I haven't even set up my own Wallpapers yet, but going into the Desktop
menu shows the infamous blue square surrounded by nothing. In my
experience, this only happens after the Desktop has run for a while, not
on a fresh boot.

If I should run any commands to create debug information you need,
please let me know.
