Rationale ========= Excerpt from LibreOffice build log: checking which libstaroffice to use... internal So it seems it would be better to use the packaged library instead of an internal code copy to provide security or bug fix updates for the library. Currently nothing in Ubuntu depends on libstaroffice. In Debian, libreoffice-calc, -draw, -impress, and -writer depend on libstaroffice. The package description is The purpose of libstaroffice is to build a filter for old StarOffice's documents (.sdc, .sdw, ...) based on librevenge (see https://sourceforge.net/p/libwpd/wiki/librevenge/ and http://www.documentliberation.org/projects/ ).
