properly these days - see:

laney@artful-vm-gdm:~$ sudo ~/temp/a.out # switch to vt3, login: prompt
K_UNICODE

...which looks set up correctly to me.

@Janne - I don't know why this would be specific to Wayland. I think
it'd happen if you were running your graphical environment on
/dev/tty[1-6] regardless of the Xness or Waylandness of it.
