Public bug reported:

I did the partition manually to replace another Linux distribution on a
given partition. I did not manually mount the EFI partition as this
worked automatically in the past. At the end of the installation
process, the installation program shows an error message, saying grub-
efi-amd64-signed failed installation on target.

A few years old desktop PC with EFI, NO secure boot.
