start gnome-system-log
select a log file where there is a prior version of the log file available
(i.e. /var/log/fail2ban.log.1) by selecting it from right bottom corner combo
control "Archive 1" (see screen capture)
gnome-system-log core dumped
the log files that causes the dump are also included to reproduce the core dump
