Can you please attach your menu.lst?
So if I understand correctly, you added the initrd line manually in the
grub menu before booting the kernel? And just running update-grub
afterwards solved the issue?
That forum thread has many other issues mixed in, it seems. I am not
sure your issue has anything to do with dmraid, although it can not be
ruled out. Everybody needs an initrd, not only dmraid users.
