I can add this, this is a completely fresh install as of just three or four days ago via the 17.10 iso. there should be then no trace of Unity, of I am not mistaken. So i think I can attest to this being a gnome issue via wayland. again, simply installing parcellite suffices, as long as you don't mind the parcellite icon constantly being on the top right. but a clipboard manager is really a necessary thing these days if you work on your nix box like I do.
