Julo Petko, Strange, the patched driver works perfectly for me. I'm on kernel 4.13.8, maybe that has something to do with it.
Also, even with the patched driver you MUST set the tunables to GOOD in powertop, otherwise the CPU package won't get to C7. Another thing to check - did you do a cold boot after you installed the patched driver? E.g power off the laptop completely, and then power it back on?
