I tired purging ppa's using sudo apt-get purge <package-name>. After which the installation progressed all the way till "Installing the upgrades". Then I received another error as detailed below.
"Could not install '/var/cahce/apt/archives/dictionaries- common_1.27.2_all.deb The upgrade will continue but the '/var/cahce/apt/archives/dictionaries- common_1.27.2_all.deb' package may not be in a working state. Please consider raising a bug' unable to clean up mess surrounding './var/lib/ispell/RADME' before installing another version: Read-only file system' At this point, I tried taking a screenshot but the Sreenshot app wasn't starting up. Neither Chrome nor Mozilla was starting up. I hit "OK" after that but then I got another message saying the installation was not complete and it will roll back to the original state. Then I received a message saying the rollback wasn't successful and the system may be unstable. I restarted the system. During restart, I ended up on Busybox command line screen. I ran "exit" command and then ran fsck /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root. Fixed all the issues. Then rebooted the system. I entered the password to crypt the hard drive. Post which the OS load seems to be stuck on a black screen with only mouse cursor and nothing else. The cursor seems to respond to input but nothing else happens. ** Attachment added: "IMG-0137.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1727452/+attachment/4996000/+files/IMG-0137.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1727452 Title: Cannot calculate the upgrade from 16.04 to 17.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1727452/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
