Ok its changed a bit on my machine now.... A bit further on in the boot i lose the artwork, get about the top 7/8 of the screen orange and the bottom black.
It then goes to a black screen. I then get bits of what i think is grub code, then the tty1 log in underneath that in a strange thin font. And finally, it then loads back up to gdm.
