Public bug reported:
At work we have a Windows file server which I have mounted via my fstab.
Using caja I can copy single files from this server to my local file
system just fine. However, when I attempt to copy folders that have
many files and a subdirectories the copy progress dialog hangs (see
screenshot). I can close the copy dialog but caja will refuse to copy
any other files, (even just local files) until I `killall caja` and
restart it.
I can do the same copy via the command-line without problem (eg `cp -R
/mnt/software/the/folder ~/Downloads`).
No interesting output from `sudo journalctl -f` while all this is
happening.
My fstab mounts it like so:
//companyserver/GroupFolders/Research/software /mnt/software
cifs
noauto,user=adamb,password=mypassword,dom=COMPANY_DOMAIN,uid=adamb,gid=adamb
I have tried setting up a VM with a samba server and using it to copy
the exact same folders, but caja does not lockup. I suspect there's
some subtle differences between a samba server and our Windows file
server.
I'm running Ubuntu-Mate 17.10 (64bit). What's the best way to track
down the problem? I'm a developer so I could do some basic debugging if
needed.
