Hello James, or anyone else affected, Accepted aufs-tools into artful-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aufs- tools/1:4.1+20161219-1ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
