It never starts.  Just to be clear, I don't have it set up to auto-
start, it happens when I try and open the program through the
application menu - or through the console.

Or at least I was having the problem.  It seems to have fixed itself on
this last reboot.  Although I had tried rebooting previously, and even
going so far as to create another user and logging in with that user.

I did change how my monitors were plugged in - I plugged one in that was
not plugged in before (the joys of moving to a new office) -but that
would have been the only change.

Note that firefox and thunderbird were not just showing up on the
missing monitor - there was no indication in Gnome that they were
running, from both the taskbar and the desktop switcher app.

You can go ahead and close this, I guess.
