Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
Dell X300, clean Ubuntu 7.10 installation, rather standard configuration, Dell
wireless 1400 (Broadcom 4324).
With the default bcm43xx driver it does not suspend and wireless also works
slow (as in bytes/second).
With ndiswrapper instead of bcm43xx (which I had to blacklist) wireless works
normal and more relevant - suspend/resume works perfectly from menus / 'quit
screen' / 'suspend button' (which is FN+Escape).
However closing the lid will lock (crash) the system - no matter what action is
selected in gnome-power-manager configuration - to recover I need to keep the
power button pressed for 5 seconds and restart ...
I believe the same lock also takes place in Kubuntu 7.10 and it does not matter
if compiz is enabled.
Took a look in the normal /etc/acpi stuff but that one does not seem to be so
much involved when gnome-power-manager is running ... (but I might be wrong).
The bug is quite annoying since closing the lid is a very 'reflex' action :(
(however when the system is suspended in the 2-3 ways that work, then the lid
is closed, on later re-opening the lid the system is restoring just fine!)

[gutsy] Closing the lid will crash the system no matter how the gnome power
manager is set, but system (Dell X300) will suspend/resume just fine in any
other way.
