However, given Ubuntu is moving away from Unity going forward as per https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/04/05/growing-ubuntu-for-cloud-and-iot- rather-than-phone-and-convergence/ you may want to use a GNOME based session going forward to avoid this problem.
