I'm not exactly sure of the effect of attaching a bug watch, but I note that defect is over 3 years old, and has had no update or response. If the idea is to wait for an implementation in Debian, then some kind of update to the effect that this is now a soluble issue might be warranted? I'm happy to do that if needed...
