This is not Ubuntu bug. I've created the workaround description (user marcin78 here) and as you can clearly see, it refers to my Antergos installation being the last one writing BIOS. I think (I'm not system expert) that this can be related to the way the kernel update scripts (modules rebuild or mkinird or any other) is handling the process. It could be that other system users don't do so many BIOS rewrites (Windows is updated in a different way) and this problem is not affecting most of PC users. Although there are reports also from Windows installations. So far the fix is replacing the chip. Far beyond most of our skills and definitely won't come cheap from Lenovo service.
