My Epson Perfection V500 stopped working after I upgraded from 17.04 to
17.10, as per everyone else's.
I created the softlink
$sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/sane
and created the file
$sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/79-udev-epson.rules
with content
ATTRS{manufacturer}=="EPSON", DRIVERS=="usb", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb",
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="*", MODE="0777"
Still no joy.
>>>I then remembered to power the scanner off and on again <<<<
It works!
Thanks to all you wonderful Ubuntu users out there...
