jedit isn't yet in Debian/Ubuntu. You have either manually installed a .deb or
are using an unofficial repository ("apt-cache madison jedit" and/or "dpkg -s
jedit" will tell you).
There's bug 105459 already for requesting packaging. I won't mark this bug as
duplicate though, because you are explicitly requesting the preview releases
(which other products would call stable, btw).
You can get a Debian package (.deb) from
http://jedit.org/index.php?page=download - both for stable and preview.
Additionally, it's not too difficult to build jEdit from source.
