It sounds like the definition of an audio device "connecting" is a
little too broad in this case, so understandably annoying.
There is a simple workaround that should work for you though:
1. mkdir ~/.config/pulse
2. cp /etc/pulse/default.pa ~/.config/pulse/default.pa
3. Edit ~/.config/pulse/default.pa and remove this:

.ifexists module-switch-on-connect.so
load-module module-switch-on-connect
.endif
4. If that didn't work then try removing:
### Should be after module-*-restore but before module-*-detect
load-module module-switch-on-port-available
