It can affect HP notebooks too.

My HP Pavilion 14n050BR BIOS cant save settings. Tried setting efivars
from efibootmgr, UEFI shell v1 and v2 without success. Also tried
updating BIOS, with no luck.

Happened after installing Opensuse Tumbleweed, some months ago.
But here its possible to install Windows (tested from DVD) and Linux (tested 
from USB) in legacy mode if the disk partition table is empty (tested with mbr 
only).
