The DpkgHistoryLog.txt shows you installed MySQL Server 5.7, and then
MariaDB Server 10.1. This migration path is not supported. From Oracle
MySQL 5.7 you need to upgrade to MariaDB 10.2 or newer.

To solve this situation, you need to apt-get purge mysql-* mariadb-*,
possibly by hand also run rm -rf /etc/mysql /var/lib/mysql and then try
installing again mariadb-server only.
