Nevermind. Doing some research I found out that, ONLY IN MY CASE (not
for normal Ubuntu image), the system-root is mounted on /overlay. This
was done to preserve the root modification, so during the boot that
/overlay is copied into the /. The problem is that in order to update
the kernel and run dpkg, this tries to install everythin in / while the
real system-root is in /overlay. I have tried to do a chroot overlay and
execute the dpkg from there but it also fails. I will be able to try
with the new kernel as I figure out how to fix this situation.
