Public bug reported:

I'll consider myself new to Linux, though I'm considering myself
fortunate that almost everything is working properly with the exception
of the sound card. I have a Dell Latitude D531 recently purchased and
need help setting up the sound. The error messages I'm receiving in
Gnome are : No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found -
when I try and adjust the volume using the control in the upper task bar
- it currently has a red x next to it. I followed all the steps
according to the documentation found at :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting to re-configure
ALSA to find my sound device.

If anyone can help with this, just tell me what you need me to do to
provide more information - thanks.
