I could solve the problem with the option
Option "DefaultConnectorTable" "on"
in the radeon driver device section.
So there might be something wrong with either my computer's BIOS or with
the BIOS parsing routines. Note that it worked with feisty.
Now it works on *my* machine with my installation, but still not when
booting from the LiveCD. So it still requires to fix the problem in the
distribution any maybe on the LiveCDs.
