- Installed ubuntu 16.04 a while ago and touchpad was working. It does work as 
well on LiveCDs.

  After upgrading kernel and some system packages (i've even removed 
xorg-input-synaptics), touchpad does not even show in `xinput list`. USB mouse 
works though.

  Most of these revolved around tampering with the 
`GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=` argument in `/etc/default/grub` and removing 
`xserver-xorg-input-synaptics` package along with confs.
