As far as I can tell, gutsy just disabled DMA on the CD-ROMs on both my
bog-standard Dell desktop and my Thinkpad X40. This is not obscure
hardware, and yet I can't watch DVDs without jerking on a 3Ghz
processor.

Any information you need, I'll provide. But please sort this out.
