There were some other problems with the install. Gvim would not work. It turned into a terminal rather than an editor. I decided to do a clean install. The third time. The first time it installed with two montors attached and the network was connected. That is when I first saw the video go blank at startup.
The second time it installed with a single monitor and without the network and no third party software. It booted and ran with two monitors. Then I updated the level 1, 2 and 3 updates. Then the level 4 updates saving the kernel for last. After that the video would blank with two monitors until I switched back to the 4.10 kernel. After a third clean install the 4.13.0-36 kernel is booting up with two monitors and they are staying lit. Gvim is working like is should. Something in the install went wrong or when I installed the updates one at a time i did so in the wrong order. It is up a running I will continue configuring it. Please close this bug report. FM.
