I have this issue as well. Acer Aspire 5570z -- I ran beryl in feisty perfectly fine, but since upgrading I have this issue several times per day, with nothing to speak of in the logs. I can ssh in from another machine and kill off X, gdm, compiz, etc. but I cannot get the actual display to respond again. I can provide logs if needed.
