Public bug reported:
Since new upgrade (2017-02-27 and subsequent) on Ubuntu 18.04 the X-server
won't start. Many parts of the Nvidia graphics driver 389 are replaced with 390.
Now there's a new file
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia-drm-outputclass-ubuntu.conf of the package
xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-390 which has some lines, unable to parse from the
Xorg environment. I comment out these corresponding lines:
Section "OutputClass"
Identifier "nvidia"
MatchDriver "nvidia-drm"
Driver "nvidia"
#Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"
#Option "PrimaryGPU" "yes"
#ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg"
EndSection
But no way to start it, the screen remains empty. There's another behavior
(compared against all older releases of the nvidia driver):
Normally after bootup the monitor is switching off the background light for a
second before starting the X-server to display the login screen. Now the
monitor doesn't switch anything.
** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
