I have a desktop that has problems with EFI booting from CD (e.g. for
Boot Repair). Is this likely to be the same issue as discussed here?

I have Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H with F8 bios. sudo efibootmgr -v gives:

It's a dual boot machine: Ubuntu 17.10 (4.13.0-36-generic) and Windows
10. Both will boot from disk.
