** Description changed:

The Xorg server immediately crashes when a 3D application, like
- openarena, is launched. The crash appears to the user like a freeze,
- the screen is black with thin coloured lines and no longer responds to
- the keyboard. I can run glxgears without any problems.
+ openarena or xtraceroute, is launched. I can run glxgears without any
+ problems.
+
+ The crash appears to the user like a freeze, the screen is black with
+ thin coloured vertical lines and no longer responds to the keyboard. I
+ think it is a complete freeze because I can't seem to ssh into the
+ laptop over the network, Alt-SysRq-r and Alt-SysRq-o do nothing, and the
+ power button does not initiate a normal shutdown. I have to hold the
+ power button down for 4 seconds to power it off.
