I did switch to mainline kernel 4.15.13 about 10 days back, and so far no single freeze happened.
I did use this web page for instructions/etc: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds I'm on KDE Neon distro, which is basically Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (with latests KDE packages on top of it).
