Hi there,
can confirm this problem on fresh gutsy Installation (not upgraded) with all
repositories in sources.list enabled.
nvidia-settings (1.0+20070502-1ubuntu2 (gutsy) says it RECOMMENDS
nvidia-glx-legacy and CONFLICTS with nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new, so it's
apparently only there for the old nvidia-glx-legacy driver [as far as I found
out in the forums nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new include the settings-program
already]
nvidia-glx-legacy (1.0.7185+2.6.22.4-14.9) on the other hand says it PROPOSES
nvidia-settings
-> makes sense so far
So I installed nvidia-glx-legacy from Ubuntu-Repo to make nvidia Geforce 2 GTS
with 3D work in Gutsy.
After that I wanted to add nvidia-settings but selecting it in synaptic brings
a window saying nvidia-glx-legacy will be removed?!?
-> makes not so much sense to me... ;-) maybe a version-number-issue?
(BTW. That also renders the famous envy-script useless cause it first
installs the nvidia-settings and then complains about being unable to
install the compiled driver cause of Version mismatch. I know envy is
unofficial - just thought info might be helpful to track down the
problem - or not ;-))
Additional Remark:
One does not HAVE TO install the nvidia-setting though. If they are left out,
driver installs - but fails to produce working xorg.conf. (And yes i ran "sudo
nvidia-glx-config enable"). Had to add this to xorg.conf to enable resolutions
> 800x600 - even if in the Section "Screen"; Subsection "Display" higher
resolution-entries like 1024x768 are present:
######## MAROCOEDIT-START
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Iiyama"
Horizsync 30.0 - 120.0
Vertrefresh 60.0 - 100.0
Option "DPMS"
EndSection
######## MAROCOEDIT-End
After adding this driver itself seems to work fine according to glxgears
frame-output - BUT then the user only has very limited possibilities to change
any nvidia-settings ;-)
Hope that is somehow helpfull to track down the problem. If further details are
required I'll be happy to provide them - just tell me what you need ;-)
Thanks for the grat work!
