About a the re-login problem: with the current LiveCD it's not enough to just log out and log in again after installing nvidia-glx-new, because apparently then the nvidia.ko module is not found. But it seems that this can be fixed by reinstalling the linux-restricted- modules-2.6.22-14-generic package - I have no idea what magic it does, but afterwards the file /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/volatile/nvidia.ko exists while it didn't exist before reinstalling linux-restricted-modules .
So after that reinstallation it is possible to logout, login again, and enable desktop effects - very neat! Displayconfig-gtk also confirms that the nvidia driver is used instead of the nv driver. I think the nvidia-glx-new driver should perform that magic to make nvidia.ko available, and should afterwards request the user to logout and login again - this is quite fast, even more so if there also appears a little notification icon in the panel which offers a logout button. -- For Hardy: enabling desktop effects with NVidia card on LiveCD is impossible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158109 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
