Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules

This is a half a request for enhancement, half bugreport:

Request: Make the Restricted Drivers Manager more robust, especially in
cases when you want to use it to manage some of your devices, and not
others.

For example, I want to manually install my own nvidia binary drivers,
but would like to have the restricted drivers manager keep my wifi
driver up-to-date.

It would be nice if I did not have to manually edit /etc/default/linux-
restricted-modules-common to blacklist modules.

I managed to crash compiz. So, I went to
System/Preferences/Appearance/Visual Effects to re-enable visual
effects. I window pops up telling me that the correct driver is not
enabled, and needed to be before I would be able to run the compiz
effects. I was indeed using the correct nvidia drivers ,which I
installed myself (downloaded manually from the nVidia website.). The
restricted drivers manager told me that the driver for my card was not
enabled, but "In Use".

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
