Following upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 my ability to push to github stopped
working.
I checked the permissions on my .ssh folders files and found that the
permissions had changed.
$ ls -l ~/.ssh
total 24
-rw-r--r-- 1 fred fred 782 Mar 29 2016 authorized_keys
-rw-r--r-- 1 fred fred 1766 Mar 29 2016 id_rsa
-rw-r--r-- 1 fred fred 405 Mar 29 2016 id_rsa.pub
-rw-r--r-- 1 fred fred 9732 Jul 1 2016 known_hosts
I do not know which package actually caused this change.
Upon resetting the permissions
chmod +600 ~/.ssh/*
Normal ssh function was restored.
$ ls -ltr ~/.ssh
total 24
-rw------- 1 fred fred 405 Mar 29 2016 id_rsa.pub
-rw------- 1 fred fred 1766 Mar 29 2016 id_rsa
-rw------- 1 fred fred 782 Mar 29 2016 authorized_keys
-rw------- 1 fred fred 9732 Jul 1 2016 known_hosts
