Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu 17.10
Release:        17.10

$ apt-cache policy dconf-editor
dconf-editor:
  Installed: 3.26.1-1
  Candidate: 3.26.1-1
  Version table:
 *** 3.26.1-1 500

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

After installing dconf-editor (via "Software") the standby/sleep
function malfunctions, specifically when trying to come out of
standby/sleep. I put my laptop to sleep by pressing the power button,
and then wake it up again by pressing the power button. However, when I
try to wake it up it is not possible to unlock it: roughly every second,
whatever I have typed into the password field gets cleared out as if I
had submitted it by pressing the return key, but unfortunately 1 second
is not enough time to type in the password completely so it's impossible
to unlock it again. Occasionally, when I pressed the Cancel button the
GUI would close and I would be presented with the command line which
would fill up with lines saying:

EXT4-fs error (device sda5): ext4_find_entry:1431: inode #912129: comm
dbus-daemon: reading directory lbloc
EXT4-fs error (device sda5): ext4_find_entry:1431: inode #403586: comm
dbus-daemon: reading directory lbloc
EXT4-fs error (device sda5): ext4_find_entry:1431: inode #260609: comm gdm3:
reading directory lblock 0
EXT4-fs error (device sda5): ext4_find_entry:1431: inode #260609: comm gdm3:
reading directory lblock 0

These lines are then repeated ad infinitum.

I uninstalled dconf-editor and rebooted and the problem went away. I
re-installed dconf-editor and there was still no problem. I then
rebooted and that is when the problem resurfaced. I am using a clean
install of Ubuntu 17.10 I believe the only other packages I have
installed are gparted, net-tools and ethtool. My set-up is fairly
unusual: I am using a Toshiba Satellite L50T-a-145 laptop. It has no
hard drive and I have installed Ubuntu to a 128GB USB 3.0 Lexar S3
JumpDrive.
