@Curtis: Thanks for the tip, last night was the first time I tried to launch gparted in the terminal and the first time I saw that error . . . I did try to re-install gparted several times, but terminal reported "already latest version" . . . so I'll try your suggestion and see what happens . . . and I'll post back when that is done.
