I can't install the official 18.04 release. The installer takes 5-10
minutes to progress from the initial questions (minimal/normal
installation) and the disk is very active. After entering the partition
details the installation process starts, but it fails with a disk error
message. On a second attempt at installation, the partition stage shows
no partitions.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with my disk as the regular OS
check on the disk is fine and SMART shows that the disk is fine. I have
also since installed Ubuntu MATE 15.10, then Ubuntu Budgie 16.04 without
any problems.

If there is a disk problem, the installer is no help as it complains
about it without any indication of what it might be. That leads me to
suspect that it is a failure of the installer.

This installer makes Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 unusable for me.
