Well, it's probably not dolphin per se· If I use the dolphin binary form 17.10 exactly the same thing happens, so it's more likely the underlying mechanisms.
And there is another, probably related, issue. If I plug in an external USB drive the Device Notifier pops up in the bottom right of the screen. If I click on the "Open with File manager" option for one of the file-system on it I get an error pop-up for Malformed URL, but no dolphin window.
