I am no longer able to reproduce this bug since the installation failure
was caused by a buggy UEFI firmware. I updated the firmware and the
installation worked flawlessly.

I tested various installation methods at the time, so I don't recall the
exact configuration of the device when the error occurred. I used to
have a working installation (before I tired to reinstall) that was set
up with LVM. But the installer should have erased the disk at the
beginning of the installation, shouldn't it? The error occurred at the
very end. (And yes, there is only one disk installed which is an eMMC.)
