I know we didn't get notification yet, but I saw that "build.7" was on the PPA
so I tried to install it. I get the same results as before: errors from dpkg
and failed install, and the system is left in a crippled state where the
qla2xxx driver (perhaps others) loads but is not functional (cannot access the
SAN).

I should add that I am *not* using "force" on dpkg when trying to install, and
yet the system seems to have been broken even though the dpkg command reported
an error.
