Radu, take a look at this bug - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1769297 As you suggested, adding the resume entry to grub worked around my inability to resume from hibernate, but the fix noted in bug #1769297 looks to be the real fix. I tested it successfully.
