A workaround was offered "upstream" in Comment #11:

I tested it successfully so far on my hardware (Inspiron 1525).

1. add "video=SVIDEO-1:d" to your kernel boot options

I still have to confirm the workaround has no other important side
effect. Since I am not in front of the PC (it is 1000km away, and I am
accessing it through SSH), I can't really see what is happening nor
check all the graphic acceleration is still there.

This test will be done later, 1st week of June, when I'll have access to
the PC.

Then I'll have to find how to make a specific option stick cleanly in
grub with new patched kernels!
