Checked out the logs https://launchpadlibrarian.net/371726798 /buildlog_ubuntu-cosmic-amd64.mplayer-skins_3.2build1_BUILDING.txt.gz and found the problem: pkgstripfiles from the package pkgbinarymangler is stripping the files. To disable this script, "export NO_PNG_PKG_MANGLE=1" should be added to debian/rules. See also:
