Public bug reported:
I was attempting to install Ubuntu 18.04 on a Kingston SDD partition
that previously had 16.04 installed. I did not format the partition, I
just set it to the file system root. All user directories are symlinked
to another drive. Other than that, I can't think of anything
particularly unusual about this installation. The EXT4 partition I was
installing to is the only partition inside an extended partition. The
drive also has two other primary partitions with Windows and Windows
recovery.
I was not at the computer when the bug happened.
